Trees on Mell Fell are shown before Castlerigg stone circle appears, followed by storm clouds on Helvellyn, then Derwentwater, Borrowdale, Newlands valley, Bassenthwaite Lake and the north western fells. The lively second movement shows various animals and birds interspersed with scenes of Windermere, Rydal Water, Grasmere, Silver Howe, and Dove Cottage. Then follows the gorgeous third movement, taking a sublime journey from Lakeside, Windermere through Esthwaite Water, Tarn Hows, Coniston Water, Cockley Beck, Hardknott, Eskdale, Wastwater, Solway Coast, Ennerdale, Loweswater, Crummock Water, Buttermere and finishing at Friars Crag, Derwentwater. The spirited final movement covers a wild morning on Derwetnwater with various birds and lake scenes, then to the peaceful woods and River Derwent near the "jaws" of Borrowdale. A heron, leaves falling, sunrise through mists on Rydal, mountain mists over the central fells, Levers Water, Coniston and various locations around Langdale bring the symphony to an end with dramatic time-lapsed mists over Elterwater.
